Armitron Watches Review and Buying Guide

Three different Armitron watches

The Armitron watch company is a division of the E. Gluck Corporation, an American watch manufacturer based in New York. E. Gluck has been producing Armitrons since the mid-1950s.

Armitron is a lower-end brand that can be found at many online and brick-and-mortar retailers. Never known as a prestige brand, the company makes reasonably dependable watches for the mass market. Prices range from $25 for a multifunction digital watch to around $100 for a dressier analog.

Armitron watches are manufactured largely in China with Chinese and Japanese components. The vast majority utilize Japanese quartz movements, although the company has recently produced a line of automatic skeleton watches. Construction materials are standard: analog watch cases are generally stainless steel; bands are leather or stainless; and most crystals are mineral (glass). Some Armitron crystals are actually plastic, though, so read product descriptions carefully.

Armitron markets watches for men and for women. Men’s styles are big and bulky and except for the skeletons most are traditional dress or casual bracelet watches. Ladies’ watches are typical feminine bracelet and bangle styles; quite a few are accented with Swarovski crystals. There’s also a Sport line for men and women, with digital readouts and extra features like stopwatches and alarms. Overall, the offerings are pretty standard for a mass-market watch manufacturer.

The main selling point of Armitron watches is consistency: their look isn’t terribly unique but they seem to get the job done. They’re workhorse watches, made for daily use. Owners are generally pleased with the initial quality of their watches, and given the low price point don’t seem to be too concerned if there are minor repair issues down the line.

If you want an impressive business or dress watch or a specialized watch for extreme outdoor conditions, this brand is probably not for you. If you want a watch for a casual office, or if you need a sport watch for weekend athletics, then there’s certainly an Armitron that would suit you.
