Well-known accessories brand Coach has partnered with fine watch-maker Movado to produce a line of mid-range designer watches. Coach was founded in New York in 1941 and is still headquartered there; Movado is a Swiss company dating to the late 1880s. The Coach watch collection premiered in 1997.
The main selling point of a Coach watch is of course the prestige of the label itself. As with the company’s leather goods, many of the watches have the iconic Coach signature logo incorporated into their design.
Since Coach watches are manufactured by Movado the quality is a bit higher than that of other fashion watches. Construction materials are typical for the price point: Swiss quartz movements, mineral crystals, stainless steel and leather bands.
The company’s watches are available for men and women but the focus is on the women’s line, which includes a wide variety of styles: colorful and sporty, practical with leather bands, glitzy bracelets and bangles. From weekend errands to an evening out, there’s a Coach watch to suit her needs. Fun silicone-strap watches are about $100 and at around $300 many styles feature the brand’s signature motif.
Men’s styles don’t have the same design range: the rather limited selection consists mostly of staid bracelet watches that could be worn for work or the weekend. A handful have chronographs which are more for looks than practicality. Prices range from about $100 to the high $300s for a series with slightly more interesting rectangular faces.
It’s worth noting that Coach watches for both men and for women are on the small side, making them a good choice if you have smaller hands or just don’t like the enormous-watch trend.
Because these watches are produced by a reputable watch manufacturer there shouldn’t be many issues with long-term reliability. Consumers who buy Coach watches know they’re paying for the brand as opposed to exceptional watch mechanics, and seem generally pleased with their purchases.
